Well, now that the Gov has abandoned a payroll tax to help fund his health care plan, the business community is able to breathe a sigh of relief. As we all know, this was a terrible plan involving many small businesses that could never afford to offer health care benefits to its employees. It also never guaranteed that more Pennsylvanians would receive coverage! Government is simply a declining and unsustainable revenue source and simply can’t afford to provide the massive amounts of dollars required for “big government” programs like the one found in states like Massachusetts where the costs are well exceeding what was projected. With the rising premiums, the cost of Massachusett’s program for the current fiscal year is expected to be $245 million more than first projected. *No program developed anywhere has succeeded in containing costs. What is the althernative to progams like AdultBasic in PA that continues to burden the taxpayer? Why not consider such althernatives involving competition among various health care entities? Why not look into more consortiums where the large pool of money helps bring the costs down for those who belong (The current Chamber of Commerce plan!). Ultimately any idea needs to have cost containment and be more efficient than what is currently in place. There needs to be more focus on eliminating fraud and accountability for all parties working within the system to be sure, beyond a doubt, that any government program is strictly and exclusively provided for only those in great need. Government is never the answer to our problems and it was never meant to be…
